Sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, in the century that took the life of Galileo Galilei (1564-1642), modern science has failed taking certain distinctive features of his physiognomy. In the field of historiography, however, often has not shown that, in that context, astrology has taken the peculiar social and cultural figure that still makes the subject of contradictory assessments. Through the chronological presentation, as on a stage, a significant number of Italian printed books, which appeared in the century of Galileo and written for or against astrology, this volume provides an account of the events of a cultural phenomenon historically well configured, and yet elusive, choice for many of his 'actors'. In particular, it highlights how, after several failed attempts to gain credit as science, astronomy or nature, as a result of the proscriptions also philosophical, scientific and ecclesiastical, astrology has carved its own place of existence and survival, both in imaginary and symbolic world of the psychological, individual or social, both in terms of typical folk.
